Activities include Unreal Engine networking lounge, indie game demos, awards sponsorship, and backing the inaugural Develop Conference Game Jam
Brighton 9th July 2014: Creative talent from the Unreal Engine 4 development community will provide the very first hands-on experiences with their games in the highly popular Unreal Engine networking lounge at the Develop Conference and Expo, taking place at the Brighton Metropole Hotel, July 8th-10th 2014.
The Unreal Engine lounge will be open on Wednesday, July 9th and Thursday, July 10th enabling delegates to relax between sessions and catch up on the latest developments, as well as check out:
Soar by Justin Ponczek aka Decca Studio
“Soar is a virtual reality human-flight experience that brings together Unreal Engine 4, the Oculus Rift, and the Razer Hydra to make you feel as if you are flying through a vast canyon,” says Ponczek. “Before you start flying, you are on a cliff. During this time, as you move in the real world, you move in the virtual world (and that includes jumping). You are tasked with jumping off the cliff, then holding both triggers to initiate the glider before you hit the ground. Once your glider is triggered, you are free to explore the landscape as the time shifts from day to night. The canyon is designed to be dense and narrow near the bottom and open near the top, so you can choose how dangerously close you wish to fly by changing your elevation. The intention is to place you in an immersive world where you can enjoy experiencing dangerous situations without drastic consequences.”
The estimated launch date for Soar is spring 2015.
Red Awakening by Domino Effect
“Red Awakening is an online team based objective multiplayer stealth game for the PC utilising the power of Epic’s Unreal Engine 4. The game focuses on horror, stealth and subterfuge, rather than the familiar first-person run-and-gun approach. For the first time, players are put at the heart of their very own slasher movie, and let loose. It blends a first-person perspective with stealth, extreme violence and surreal drug-induced storytelling, accompanied by soundtrack and visuals influenced by the slasher/Giallo movies of the 1980s. Gameplay is influenced by games such as Thief, Manhunt, Timesplitters 2 and condemned criminal origins but with the objective team-based gameplay from Counter-Strike,” comments Game Director Rob Peall.
The estimated launch date for Red Awakening is October 2015.
Caede by ThrownTogetherStudios
“Caede is an RPG set in a medieval open world map with realistic and amazing places. The player experiences realistic human states such as hunger and thirst, and can use different kinds of weapons including spears, swords, axes and shields – all of which have their own effects,” commented Philipp Nasahl, ThrownTogetherStudios.
The estimated launch date for Caede is January 2015.
SKARA The Blade Remains by 8-Bit Studio
“SKARA is a free-to-play MOV, or multiplayer online versus game. Unlike simple versus games that have players facing off, SKARA is set in arenas where as many as 16 players can fight at the same time,” commented Pablo Rodríguez.
The estimated launch date for SKARA is September 2014.
In addition to showcasing up-and-coming independent projects, Epic is providing the tech for the first ever game jam to take place at the Develop Conference. The Develop Game Jam is sponsored by Square Enix Collective and led by David Hayward. Epic’s Zak Parrish and Alan Noon will be on hand to provide advice and encouragement for the 30 contestants as they battle through each day. The winning team will receive a complimentary 12 month subscription to UE4.
“The Develop Conference is all about developing skills and knowledge whilst throwing a spotlight on both emerging and experienced talent. Once again the Unreal Engine Lounge provides us with a platform to showcase our brilliant UE4 community whilst providing a retreat for the busy Develop delegates. It’s going to be a great couple of days,” commented Mike Gamble, European Territory Manager for Epic.
Epic Games is also a sponsor of the Develop Awards, which will be held on Wednesday, July 9th.
