When Swedish-Lebanese film director turned video game developer Josef Fares brought his pitch of the Nordic fairy tale-inspired game Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons to Starbreeze Studios, he knew the brothers’ journey needed to be told in a unique way. Inspiration struck in the form of a dual stick control scheme that connects the player to each brother both physically and emotionally.
The studio turned to Unreal Engine technology to bring their passionate vision to life.
Fares discusses what it was like for the small team to develop Brothers using Unreal Engine 3, including how the toolset’s out of the box strengths and tight integration allowed for rapid iteration across disciplines. Read more about the project here.
Starbreeze Studios recently took home the honor of “Downloadable Game of the Year” for Brothers at the 17th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards.
