When you ship your game, you pay 5% of gross revenue.* This means we succeed when you succeed. Epic Games is in the business of making Unreal Engine work for you.
*Here's some fine print that's actually good.The 5% royalty starts after the first $3,000 of revenue per game per quarter.
If you’d rather not pay a royalty, we can discuss custom terms that suit your needs.
For film projects and contracting and consulting projects such as architecture, simulation and visualization, you don't pay a royalty.

Free for Academic Use
Unreal Engine 4 is now free for schools and universities for Academic use. The engine can be installed and used on all school owned computers, and provided free of charge to all students.
In addition, students can gain direct access to Unreal Engine 4 for free through the GitHub Student Developer Pack.
