Choosing a performance capture system for real-time mocap
In the meantime, real-time technology has continued to evolve, making it possible to capture and target such performances on the fly. Using performance capture in this way has made all kinds of media possible, from live-capture stage performances to interactive experiences.
In the new white paper Choosing a real-time performance capture system, we explore this emerging field from suits and gloves to cameras, and examine how different systems are best suited to different types of production.
Real-time performance capture systems aren’t inexpensive, and the time to process the data you get from them is a key factor in the overall cost of their use. To keep your costs and processing times as low as possible, you need to understand how each type of system works so you can choose the right one for your projects.
In this paper, we go over the functions and usages of various performance capture systems in detail, and we explore two real-time projects: the Siren Real-Time Performance video released at GDC 2018, and SIGGRAPH 2018 Real-Time Live! Winner: Democratizing MoCap: Real-Time Full-Performance Motion Capture with an iPhone X, Xsens, IKINEMA, and Unreal Engine.
