The UltraLight is a procedural softbox/light source building tool aimed at high-quality and ultra-realistic renders and studio quality lighting. Create lights of any shape or style with one simple tool!


UltraLight combines native Unreal Engine light sources with a customizable and texturable emissive plane that includes a full range of procedural gradient tools and a built-in gobo system, and optional light geometry shapes. It is the most versatile and high-quality cinematic lighting tool available. Make lights of any shape or style, separate light sources from reflections for the ultimate control over the look and feel of your scenes, and match the cinematic quality of professional studios.


Based on real-world photographic tools and 30+ years of professional photographic and CG lighting/rendering experience, UltraLight was originally developed as an in-house tool at Heavy Artillery Studios and is being shared now for the first time.


Project includes a lighting demonstration level with multiple lighting scenarios. All models are free to use in your own projects.

Important/Additional Notes: This tool is primarily designed for cinematics and high-quality offline rendering. It is optimized for quality, over performance, but disabling the lightplane/geometry it can be used as basic Unreal lights, or anywhere in between so optimization is very easy.
