The objective of this function is to generate movement for any type of vegetation assets such as trees and grass automatically, being able to work with many polygons and using Nanite, as well as game ready and adaptable to any type of geometry with the minimum preparation.

It works by connecting the material function into the world position offset socket and adjusting the parameters you need.

In order to make it work, in the current version of Unreal Engine (most recent 5.3) you must disable Nanite and follow the following steps:

  1. Turn off Nanite for the meshes you need
  2. For manually placed meshes, activate the option "Evaluate world possition offset" in the raytracing > Advance options in the details tab of the object.
  3. For instance meshes , use this console command: r.RayTracing.Geometry.InstancedStaticMeshes.EvaluateWPO 1

1.1 update:

  • Fixed bug related with the foliage tool and instances
  • Performance and shader compilation time have been optimized (around 40%)
  • Branch movement has been reworked with new features and new type of movement for better visual quality
