Why Power of 2?

Our toolkit is built around the concept of power-of-2 dimensions (e.g., 64, 128, 256, 512), aligning seamlessly with common texture resolutions like 512x512 or 1024x1024. This approach ensures that every element — from floor tiles to walls —adheres to a consistent sizing system, greatly simplifying the design process and enhancing alignment with textures.

In the realm of Blockout, Prototyping, or Greybox kits, sizing tends to be somewhat arbitrary. Many attempt to scale with the Unreal Engine skeleton, but often fall short in maintaining consistent dimensions.

The Power of 2 Blockout Toolkit standardizes this aspect by anchoring every element to power-of-2 dimensions. This methodology not only aligns perfectly with common texture resolutions (e.g., 512x512, 1024x1024, 2048x2048) but also facilitates the creation of fractional divisions that are crucial for detailed design work.

  • Floor Tiles: Precisely measured at 512cm x 512cm x 24cm, with a variance of +/- 12cm over the centerline, ensuring a perfect fit in any design layout.
  • Walls: Sized at 512cm x 384cm x 24cm (+/- 12cm over the centerline), these walls integrate seamlessly with other elements.
  • Fractional Scaling: We aim to have object dimensions as fractional multiples of power-of-2 figures, such as 64, 96, 144, etc. This approach guarantees that almost every element you create fits into a harmonious and standard design system.
