NVIDIA, Logitech, bluegfx and MPG Universal among industry heavyweights providing services to Make Something Unreal Live 2013
Cary, N.C. CARY, N.C. – Epic Games, Inc., creators of award-winning games and game technology, today announces the invaluable support of some of the most influential companies in the industry for the grand finale of Make Something Unreal Live 2013.
This follows last week’s news of involvement of famous individuals in videogames in the student game-making competition.
Leading graphics hardware developer NVIDIA is providing the computers and monitors which the 30 members of the final four teams will use intensively throughout Gadget Show Live to complete their games in contention for this year’s prize. Manufacturer Logitech will supply peripherals such as keyboards and mice to complete the contestants’ systems. The finalists will be working against the clock on the show floor throughout the show, aiming to complete the games which they have created using Epic’s Unreal Development Kit, the free edition of the award-winning Unreal Engine 3. The four games each centre on this year’s competition theme ‘Mendelian inheritance: human genomics and genetics’, which was set and is supported by the Wellcome Trust.
The finalists come from the following four teams:
Team Summit developing “Beings,” a puzzle game for younger players
Static Games developing “Mendel’s Farm,” a strategy game of animal husbandry and breeding
Kairos Games developing “Polymorph,” a quest through a doomed world
Dead Shark Triplepunch developing “Epigenesis,” a multiplayer arena-based game
Each team will be easily identified as they will be wearing bespoke competitors’ polo shirts provided by MPG Universal, the specialist in videogames and film recruitment.
The students will arrive at Birmingham’s NEC for the start of Gadget Show Live’s press day on Tuesday April 2nd, ready to begin work on their games. The grand finale will be launched with a lunchtime reception sponsored by 3D solutions supplier bluegfx. “Our sponsors bring expertise and solutions to this year’s final of Make Something Unreal Live,” commented Mike Gamble, European Territory Manager at Epic Games. “Companies like NVIDIA and Logitech are regular supporters of the contest and it’s fair to say that it would not be the same without them. Everyone at Epic Games, and our contestants, is grateful for their generous support and that of new sponsors like MPG Universal and bluegfx, and their part in making this the biggest and most successful Make Something Unreal Live yet.”
At Gadget Show Live finalists will complete development on their games live on the show floor in front of the gurus, MSUL judges, and visitors to the show. On the final day of the exhibition, the overall winning team will be announced and awarded with a commercial Unreal Engine 4 licence for PC digital distribution.
