Our Unreal Enterprise Tech Talks series kicks off on Wednesday, August 15 with a full day’s schedule of presentations (located in Meeting Room 16), featuring info-packed talks on real-time production with the Fortnite animated trailer, live performance motion capture, real-time raytracing, virtual production, and more!

Note: Tech Talks will run from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and a SIGGRAPH badge is required to attend.

9:30am-10:30am | Real-time Ray Tracing Advances in Unreal Engine

The holy grail of real-time rendering is finally here! Join Juan Canada and François Antoine in exploring the latest exciting ray tracing advancements in Unreal Engine. We’ll break down the roadmap of our new path-tracer and progressive lightmapper, then reveal our latest real-time ray-traced showcase.

11:00am-12:00pm | Fortnite - Advancing The Animation Production Pipeline

Looking to improve your understanding of animation production in Unreal Engine? Follow Epic’s Brian Pohl and Ryan Mayeda as they chart the course of new workflow and pipeline improvements to UE4 while dissecting the Fortnite cinematic trailer one year after its initial release. 

In this lecture, you'll learn more about what we've improved, changed, and added to UE4 to dramatically streamline your animation pipeline. We'll examine Perforce setup, source control, python integration, sequencer improvements, better production management techniques through UE4's Shotgun integration capabilities, and more!

2:00pm-3:00pm | Virtual Production with Unreal Engine 4.20

With the release of Unreal Engine 4.20, creative teams in the film and television world have an array of new tools designed to support the virtual production process. These tools are defining a new wave of production workflows that integrate real-time visual effects with live action footage. 

Join us as we take a look under the hood of UE4's new virtual camera, genlock, timecode, sequence recorder, and video I/O capabilities that are destined to alter the way you make visual content.

3:30pm-4:30pm | Mixed Reality Production using Unreal Engine 4.20

Curious about what it takes to build a mixed reality entertainment attraction
using Unreal Engine 4? Join us to learn more about the pipeline and processes of designing themed mixed-reality experiences for a local stage.

This tech talk will delve into mixed reality production processes using UE4, VR hardware, real lighting and effects integration using DMX/Midi/Artnet, and motion capture systems. You’ll also learn to build live 3D characters with motion tracking IK, which helps in crafting immersive experience for live actors and players alike.
