This course demonstrates methods for creating the effect of burning wood using various material animation nodes and hand-painted textures. Learn how to create a real-time animated material in 15 minutes.
In this 15-minute micro-course, Paul Neale will demonstrate methods for creating the effect of burning wood using various material animation nodes and hand-painted textures. We will explore using the Time, Rotator, and Panner nodes to control the speed and direction of smoldering wood. Using a Blend Overlay node, we’ll fmix the animated tileable textures with a burning wood detail map, and add the ability to blend the result with a non-burning wood texture using a Height Lerp node controlled with a height texture and vertex colors. The end result will be a real-time animated material that adds depth to the textures that are not found in stationary materials.
You will learn how to:
Manipulate normal maps on a material based on texture values.
Animate textures using rotator and panner nodes.
Utilize parameters to add customization and control to a material.
Apply vertex color to meshes to control where materials are visible.
