Odyssey key features
Odyssey is designed for 2D animators who want to take advantage of Unreal Engine’s features for previs, layout, and full 2D production. Familiar 2D tools are integrated right in the UE viewport, including a timeline for storyboarding and layout planning, and tools for doing drawovers and annotations directly on 3D scenes.
These features, in addition to stylus support, make Odyssey a natural fit not just for 2D artists and animators, but also storyboard artists and anyone looking to enhance their CG project with 2D artwork.
“Odyssey stands out as a top-notch 2D animation plugin for Unreal Engine,” says Elodie Moog, founder of Praxinos. “It empowers 2D animators and storyboard artists to work directly in a 3D environment and craft intricate cutscenes, character animations, and 2D gameplay experiences with ease. Its robust bitmap and vector animation system, advanced tweening capabilities, and seamless integration with Unreal Engine's ecosystem make Odyssey the go-to solution for studios and indie developers alike.”
Early adopters are already exploring how Odyssey transforms their creative process.
“Odyssey gives me a new creative approach to light in my graphic work, allowing me to paint virtually with an environment mimicking natural light, playing with transparencies and reflections,” says Izù Troin of Weilai Productions. “I’m also discovering a different way of making films—one that’s much more instinctive than I ever experienced.”
"As a 2D animator, I haven't had a lot of experience with 3D tools and software in my career, but Odyssey's 2D/3D interface was so intuitive and streamlined to use within a 3D environment that I could completely focus on drawing my animation instead of having to constantly troubleshoot,” shared artist Gemma Roberts. “It was particularly helpful to be able to draw directly in the 3D space and then isolate the 2D animation on its own plane whenever you needed. I was very impressed with the potential and capability of Odyssey so far and look forward to being able to create more hybrid animations in future!"
The Praxinos team plans to work in close collaboration with Epic Games and continue to enhance Odyssey, ensuring it evolves alongside Unreal Engine.
