Join the Unreal Engine team at SIGGRAPH 2019!

By Janna Hamm

SIGGRAPH 2019 is just around the corner, and we’re excited to share our plans with you. This year’s conference will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from July 28 to August 1. The event will showcase the latest innovations in computer graphics, animation, VR, gaming, and emerging technologies, and that’s something we're thrilled to be part of!

Unreal Engine User Group: The Orpheum Theatre

Kicking things off on Monday, July 29, we’re hosting a great afternoon at the iconic Orpheum Theatre on 842 South Broadway. Everyone is invited, no conference badge required!
We’ll have networking, beverages, and demos starting at 3 PM, followed by an amazing lineup of presentations starting at 4 PM. Our featured guests include ILMxLAB, Walt Disney Imagineering, Digital Domain, The Third Floor, Cine Tracer, and more! You’ll also get to find out what’s next for Unreal Engine in the media and entertainment space from our CTO Kim Libreri.

What would a User Group be without delicious food and drinks? We’ll round off the afternoon with another beverage or two, and we’ll bring in the food trucks.

Be sure to reserve your spot now!

Theater presentations: Booth 1319, Hall H

We’ve got three packed days of presentations in our booth from Tuesday, July 30 to Thursday, August 1.

As well as hearing from our own in-house specialists on a range of topics, we’re incredibly honored to welcome speakers from Fox VFX Lab, GiantStep, Magic Leap, The Third Floor, Sequin, Framestore, HOK, Halon Entertainment, Cine Tracer, Capacity, Digital Domain, ILMxLAB, Quixel, and VR Playhouse. You won’t want to miss these.

Tech Talks: Meeting Room 405 at the LACC

Ever wanted to touch base with the expert team behind Unreal Engine? On Wednesday, July 31, we invite you to find out all about the latest features and workflows in our in-depth sessions:

10 AM: Causing Chaos: Physics and Destruction in Unreal Engine
Jim Van Allen, Matthias Worch, and Michael Lentine from Epic Games, and Jeff Rous from Intel take you through new features in Unreal Engine for creating highly interactive worlds that can be fractured, shattered, and demolished.

11 AM: Virtual Production in Unreal Engine
David Hurtubise and Philippe Rebours will review UE4's virtual production tools, and highlight new features in Unreal Engine 4.23. Jacob Buck and Joji Tsuruga will then present a virtual production case study set in the world of Fortnite.

1 PM: Ray Tracing in Unreal Engine 4.23
Epic's Juan Cañada, Lead Engineer, and Patrick Kelly, Senior Rendering Programmer, offer a close-up look at ray tracing in Unreal Engine 4.23, and demonstrate the processes and techniques for creating cinematic-quality real-time lighting.

2 PM: In-Camera VFX with Unreal Engine
Epic Product Manager Ryan Mayeda shows how a new approach to filmmaking enables actors to be placed into scenes live instead of composited in post, and photographic elements to take advantage of environment lighting and reflections.

Real-Time Live!: West Hall B

One of the highlights of SIGGRAPH for the past several years has been Real-Time Live!, a showcase and competition for the best in cutting-edge interactive technology.

This year, we’re entering Causing Chaos: Physics and Destruction in Unreal Engine, a sneak peek at our new high-performance simulation system coming as an early access feature in UE 4.23. Chaos enables the creation of cinematic-quality visuals with massive levels of destruction in real time, and delivers unprecedented artist control.

We’re proud that two other entries—Quixel's Rebirth: Megascans Environment Breakdown and Real-Time, Single Camera, Digital Human Development from Digital Domain—also rely on Unreal Engine. Check out the full program content on the SIGGRAPH web site.

The event kicks off at 6 PM on Tuesday, July 30.
