Webinar: Working with Geospatial (GIS) Data in Unreal Engine

December 10, 2020
In our recent webinar Working with geospatial data in Unreal Engine, we explored how to use Unreal Engine to create high-quality geographic visualizations and interactive simulations using geographic information system (GIS) data.

If you missed it, no problem—you can watch the replay here.

In this webinar, Simulations Industry Manager Sébastien Lozé gives an introduction to the multiple approaches Epic Games is taking to support the geospatial intelligence community. Then, Business Solutions Architect Alban Bergeret demonstrates how to use an external terrain modeling tool to create worlds from geospatial data.

Alban gives an overview of geographic coordinate systems and precision concerns, before going through the workflow between Trian3DBuilder and Unreal Engine, covering data ingestion, vector attribution, terrain generation, and the Datasmith exporter.

You’ll learn how to:
  • Import GIS data using a terrain modeling tool such as Trian3D builder
  • Use Visual Dataprep recipes to optimize and import the data
  • Embellish your project with 3D trees, a water shader, and more
