Unreal Engine at PAX East 2016

By Joe Kreiner

Unreal Engine was everywhere at the show, and our first stop was the "Made in MA" PAX Pre-Party held by Mass DiGi the night before the show.

UE4 teams present:

A special thanks goes out to the Boston Unreal Engine Meetup group for organizing our involvement in the festivities.

Now onto the main event. Everywhere we looked on the expo floor, Unreal Engine teams were there.

Lawbreakers from Boss Key had a three-hour wait (minimum) in their line all weekend, not to mention a giant booth.

Red Barrels brought in a terrifying light-proof booth for Outlast II

Frima created an elaborate setup to show off Fated in VR.

Studio Wildcard brought along a giant T-Rex for ARK: Survival of the Fittest and let people ride it!

Robot Entertainment had Orcs Must Die! protesters.

Battleborn from Gearbox Software had a great showing and an enormous presence.

I found RUINER by Reikon Games in the Devolver booth and played for a while - love the art style! (and the blurry photo!)

Epic also partnered with IndieMEGABOOTH to support their chosen UE4 teams. Great to see Unreal Engine represented by:

We love working with the folks at IndieMEGABOOTH. If you’re interested in showing with them at PAX Prime, make sure to submit your game! We're financially supporting Unreal teams there as well.

In addition, I sat on Alienware’s VR panel alongside Oculus' Chris Jurney and other fine folks:

Much discussion was had about the future of VR, but I’ll point out that many of the best-selling experiences on the Oculus store right now - ADR1FT, Chronos, and EVE: Valkyrie - are built with UE4.

Our team from Epic also showed Paragon in the PlayStation booth. Free stress test this weekend!

All in all, there were forty two (42!) Unreal Engine games shown at PAX East by my count. It’s pretty amazing to look at the breadth of this list:

See you at PAX Prime, September 2-4 in Seattle, where you'll find Epic, and we'll be looking for even more Unreal Engine games.
