Learn Unreal Engine 5 fast with these new courses

The world of Unreal Engine 5 may be glorious, but that doesn’t mean you always know where to start.

This month, we’ve assembled seven courses dedicated to helping you explore some of UE5’s finer points, so you can quickly move from general overviews to feature master like that!

Your First Hour in Unreal Engine 5

In this course, you’ll learn how to set up a new project, bring assets into existing projects, adjust lighting / level layouts, and more. We’ll even touch on the power of Blueprints. This is square one—done right.

Transitioning to Unreal Engine 5

But what if you are already using UE4? Then let’s get you into 5!

We’ll start by showing you how to seamlessly update your projects and take advantage of the new Editor tools/workflows, before moving on to key features, changes, and the new UI.

Lumen Essentials

Let there be light! It’s time to explore UE5’s fully dynamic global illumination and reflections system. We’ll cover modes, features, benefits, even the limitations of this technology so you know when and where to apply it.

Nanite Essentials

Onto Nanite, UE5’s virtualized micropolygon geometry system. What does that mean in practice? How about the ability to create massive 3D worlds without any noticeable loss in performance or fidelity? In this course, we’ll learn how to use Nanite for new and existing content, how to tell the difference between a Nanite and Static Mesh, and much, much more. Dig in!

City Sample: Unpacked

You may have seen the complex urban environment that was created for the The Matrix Awakens UE5 tech demo. We call it the City Sample, and in this lesson, we’ll explore it as we gain insight into how a massive scene like this handles high-end visuals rendered with Nanite and Lumen.

Introducing Post Processing

Ready to learn about post processing in Unreal Engine? You’re in luck. This course shows you how to implement cinematic cameras, control your final image, color grade your scene, use LUTs, and output your final image to multiple industry-supported formats. So lots of useful stuff!

Build a Third-Person Character from Scratch

Want another UE5 sandbox to play around in? Explore Stack’O’Bot, as you learn how to build a third-person character that includes movement, cameras, animations, even a jetpack! This one is fun and who doesn’t love a robot?
That’s it for now. And as a reminder, we add new courses to the Epic Developer Community every month. All of them free, and many related to in-demand skills that can get you work or advance your career across a growing number of industries.
