But for many people, the holy grail has been to see themselves, or someone they know, as a MetaHuman. That requires either a scan or a sculpt of the person, something that typically takes specialist equipment or a great deal of talent.
Now, the Capturing Reality team has come up with a tutorial to show you how you can scan yourself or someone else with nothing more complicated than a camera that captures video—such as your smartphone—and then use RealityCapture to process the images into a textured mesh that you can use as your starting point for the Mesh to MetaHuman workflow in Unreal Engine.
RealityCapture offers affordable Pay-Per-Input (PPI) license plans from as little as $10 USD, while you can get started with MetaHuman Creator and Unreal Engine for free, making the whole process very accessible.
The new tutorial focuses mainly on the scanning and processing steps. For more details on the Mesh to MetaHuman process and on refining your avatar in MetaHuman Creator, check out the video below.
We hope you enjoy using RealityCapture, Mesh to MetaHuman, and MetaHuman Creator to create your own digital humans that you can incorporate into games, films, and real-time experiences in Unreal Engine.
