Datasmith Beta Drives Productivity Boost

By Ken Pimentel

The Unreal Datasmith beta is now in full swing, with over 2,600 beta users exploring the capabilities of this new workflow solution for architectural visualization and product design.

Announced at SIGGRAPH, Unreal Datasmith is a toolbox of plugins for Unreal Engine that streamlines the process of importing and manipulating data from multiple CAD/DCC sources, including Autodesk 3ds Max.

Beta registration has grown to almost 8,000 persons over the last several months and includes users from more than 4,000 companies across the globe. Roughly 60% percent of registrants hail from the architectural industry, though beta users also represent a diverse range of other design and engineering-related fields (with many in the Games, Film and Advertising industries joining in).

In a recent survey of beta participants, users reported Datasmith boosted the speed of their design workflows by more than half. CAD users found a 58 percent gain in productivity compared to their previous methods and software, with 3ds Max users seeing a 59 percent productivity increase. While this represents a significant improvement in productivity, we know we can do more while the beta runs. As this large population of beta users throws everything at Datasmith, it helps ensure the final product will be very robust and ready for action, so bring it on!

If you’re curious about how Datasmith can help positively impact your real-time design experience, there’s still time to join the beta!
