Connect with Epic Games at Austin Game Conference

By Daniel Kayser

The Austin Game Conference is happening this week at the Austin Convention Center where critical insight into developing live, participatory games will be delivered while real-time engagement between developers, players and spectators takes place.

While the AGC line up includes 80 expert speakers across five conference tracks including Design, Business, Production, Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality / Mixed Reality and Audience Participation (Streaming and eSports), those particularly interested in business should look to attend the workshop “You’ve Made a Great Game - Now Make a Great Game Company”, which takes place on Wednesday, September 22 from, 10:30 AM-11:30 AM in room 18D.

Featuring Epic’s Joe Kreiner, Business Development, Unreal Engine, Americas alongside Frank Coppersmith, CEO, Possum Interactive & Char, Austin Game Devs, Quoc Tran, CTO, Possum Interactive and Casey Currie, Senior Consultant, 9Gauge Partners, LLC, the workshop will give attendees the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of starting, growing and running a great business.

Key topics include corporate formation (why, how), accounting (where’s the money?), taxes, employees and contractors (who are these people?), licensing, insurance (oops), contracts (we agreed to what?), real estate leasing and more. Attendees will walk away with a game plan to get started or with a new understanding of critical topics to help your business grow.

"This panel is going to focus on the business structures, best practices, and potential gotchas for developers of all sizes.  Don't ignore the business of making games, because it can have a huge impact on the success of your hard work!" said Kreiner.

“One of the best things about my job is advising indie studios. Epic has a vested interest in the success of the members of our community. So, we want to see them start their journey to launching the next ARK or Rocket League on the right foot! I take the experience gained by Epic, add in what we've observed as best practice from our other licensees, and recommend trusted partners that can help developers reach their goals.”

For more information on the panel, please visit its official page on the Austin Game Conference website. Attendees can also look to connect with Unreal Engine Senior Community Manager Chance Ivey and Sr. Developer Relations Tech Artist Alan Noon at Epic's booth (202) throughout the show for Unreal Engine demonstrations and discussion.
