NO LAW: Crafting a living, breathing cyber-noir world with UE5

Neon Giant’s NO LAW is a first-person cyber-noire shooter—but it’s also so much more.

You play as Grey Harker, a grizzled veteran pulled out of quiet retirement and into a quest for vengeance. The story unfolds in the heaving, Mediterranean-inspired Port Desire—an unregulated city built for pleasure where anything goes.

What sets NO LAW apart from other cyberpunk games is the mindset that drove its development: rather than building bigger, the team sought to build denser.

Walk into a store, and you can individually pick up and stash energy drinks, stimulants, and junk food in your bag. Pay for your basket with the shopkeeper, or make a run for it and try your luck against the automated turrets and heavily armed Peacekeepers. Need to enter a well-defended building? It might be best to wait until it rains—like real people, the NPCs don’t like to hang about getting wet. Those same NPCs might be easier to eliminate at night, when they crawl into their beds.

NO LAW aims to deliver a living, breathing world—a true immersive sim set in a beguiling, thoughtfully-crafted dystopia.

We caught up with Tor Frick, Co-Founder & Creative Director at Neon Giant to find out how their small team used Nanite, Lumen, MetaHuman, the Mass framework, Niagara, and other core Unreal Engine features to artfully compose every corner of Port Desire, bringing an incomparable level of depth, realism, and interactivity to the game.

‘NO LAW’ is due out in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam.
