Developed with UE5, I AM RIPPER puts a gripping, gritty narrative in players’ hands
White Paper Games creates experiences that respect your time, value your input & question your understanding through the power of player-driven storytelling. They are a small, independent studio based in Manchester, UK that aims to deliver compelling narratives that leave players with lingering thoughts long after they’ve left their worlds.
For over a decade, the small team at Manchester-based White Paper Games has been focused on creating compelling narratives that consistently infuse a key characteristic—meaningful player choice.
From 2014’s Ether One to 2019’s The Occupation and 2021’s Dahlia View, the award-winning team has used Unreal Engine to develop its projects while focusing on player-driven storytelling that ignites the imagination through richly developed worlds and uniquely human characters.
White Paper Games’ latest project, I AM RIPPER, is a British thriller set in the economic decline of the 1980s and takes the tactile mechanics and immersive environments of the studio’s previous titles to an all-new level using Unreal Engine 5.
In the game, you play as a forensic investigator called on to solve one of the UK's most prolific crimes. Sticking with their focus on player choice, the devs are providing players with subtle yet critical decisions throughout the experience which will change the outcome of their investigation.
We recently had the opportunity to connect with White Paper Games Technical Director, James Burton, to learn more about the project and the team’s use of key Unreal Engine 5 features such as Motion Matching, Control Rig, and Sequencer to bring this gripping, gritty, and sometimes gut-wrenching story to life.
