Bitfire Games is an indie studio founded in 2022 by Jonas Ejby Raagaard & Hans Oxmond—former study mates and longtime friends with a shared passion for game development. They are committed to crafting high-quality, immersive co-op experiences that push the boundaries of gameplay and storytelling.
Developed in Copenhagen, Denmark by the small but ambitious team at Bitfire Games, DarkSwarm is an upcoming co-op, tactical objective-based extraction shooter with procedurally generated levels, loads of weaponry, and finely tuned gameplay designed for its drop-in/drop-out multiplayer. Oh, and it has a lot of nasty aliens to destroy, too.
Featuring four distinct player classes complete with cosmetics and progression, the game is set in a dark, dystopian universe consumed by endless conflict over planetary resources, profit, and corporate dominance.
The DarkSwarm, an alien force of unimaginable horror, has awakened, spreading its deadly tendrils across the cosmos, leaving only devastation in its wake. With this relentless threat looming, the need for protection has never been more urgent.
DarkSwarm is developed with Unreal Engine 5 and, to learn more about the project, we caught up with Bitfire’s CEO and Co-Founder Hans Oxmond to find out how the small team is bringing its bold brand of colorful co-op combat and accessible multiplayer to life. Plus, we discuss the role that key UE5 features, optimization tools, and source code access are playing during development.
