Marketplace Content Release

Marketplace Content Release

on |

Happy holidays, everybody! Here's the final new Marketplace content release for the year, and we've got some great stuff for you! We'll be back to our regularly scheduled weekly releases starting Wednesday, January 7. Now, onto the content!

First we have the Zombie1 Model+Animation Pack by T-pose Inc. This is a high-quality fully realized zombie with 44 motion captured animations ready for immediate use, and a pair of optional pants for modesty. This is a great example of a comprehensive content pack that's ready to use out of the box, so to speak. OM NOM BRAINS! This is a great choice for anyone working on a zombie game, or those that are simply fans of skinless shambling horrors.

Here's a well-designed content pack I'm pretty excited about. Behold Procedural Apartments by Ammobox Studios! This is a simple, customizable, really clever set of Blueprints that will help you quickly build entire blocks of apartments. You can customize height, depth, width, and have it auto-populate the building with appropriately spaced windows and doors, and easily swap out materials and modular parts with a simple series of controls. This is a terrific way to build content that will make it easier than ever to create believable, varied environments with very little effort. Go check it out!

If you're looking to pair some horror-appropriate music with your new zombie (I also suggest a nice chianti), look no further than the Horror Music Pack by Stephen Lu. The tracks range from ambient/building to exploration and chase to match different gameplay sections with full orchestra, choir, solo strings, and voices. Chills! Horror! (why did we save these for Christmas?)

As a fan of both portmanteaus and sweet material technology, I'd like to highlight Allegorithmic's Bitmap2Material 3 Pro. You can now generate full, seamlessly tiling materials from any bitmap images from right inside UE4! This is a truly impressive, powerful piece of tech. I'm a fan of these guys. Check out the video preview and tutorial! Also, IMPORTANT NOTE: Substance is required to use this, but that is a free download from their website.

Developing a science fiction game and want to get maximum bang for your spacebuck? Rocket on over to Modular SciFi: Hallways by Jonathon Frederick! This is a handsome modular pack of assets to create a wide variety of indoor hallways, complete with simple color customization options and five sample environments. Showing the hallways' possibilities in different lighting conditions is a nice touch for presentation. Take note!

Rocks rock, especially if they're based on photo-scanned data of actual rocks, and set up with PBR materials to boot! I speak of Photo Real Rocks by Barry Lowndes, a solid variety of good-looking rocks that work in multiple orientations and from all angles, together or separately. LODs are also included, which is always nice.

Finally, one type of content pack that I'm a big fan of seeing is large-scale, ready-made batches of common elements that everyone needs, no matter what type of game you're developing. A great example of that this week is Necro's Utility Material Pack by Jacob Bowers. Brick walls, ceramic tiles, metal roofs, lava, bottomless vats of congealing blood, whatever your need, this pack has it all! It's also laid out on a grid with each material thoughtfully labeled, which is a great touch. Go, look, buy, enjoy!

That's all for 2014, folks. Happy holidays, and see you soon! 2015 is going to be a very exciting year.
